Abstract : For several years, Gabon has been committed to diversifying its economy, placing agriculture as a key sector. However, mapping agricultural plantations and crop types is hindered by land fragmentation and the complexity of tropical landscapes. To support decision-makers, integrating innovative scientific methods into crop monitoring is essential. The general objective of this study is to develop and evaluate a methodology for identifying agricultural plantations and crops in the Lébamba area. The methodological approach is based on a hierarchical classification integrating the complementarity between Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, GPS surveys, and the very high spatial resolution of drone imagery. The results demonstrate that for agricultural plantation identification, the Drone-CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) combination outperforms all other approaches. It significantly reduces commission and omission errors, achieving overall accuracies ranging between 96.34% and 98.73% (Kappa indices between 0.93 and 0.97). Regarding the discrimination of crop types (banana vs. cassava), the drone's contribution is decisive: it overcome a technical bottleneck by increasing the Kappa index from 0.00 (total failure with GPS alone) to 0.63. The study concludes that the geometric precision of drone-derived Regions of Interest (ROI), coupled with the power of CNN non-linear modeling, provides an optimal solution for mapping agricultural systems in this region.
